Jeb Bush: Psych majors work at Chick-fil-A | Washington Examiner

I don't know about other Tipsters' experience but in the digest there
is no link to an article in the Washington Examiner (was there supposed
to be one?) nor is there one on the Mail Archive. I don't know how
people were able to access the relevant article unless:

(1) There was an active link in the individual email containing Chris'
post,
and/or
(2) They searched for the article.

For Tipsters whose situation is the same as mine, here's the URL to
the Washington Examiner article:
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/jeb-bush-psych-majors-work-at-chick-fil-a/article/2574851

However, as a result of having to search for this article (I assume it's
the one that Chris was referring to), I came across a commentary on
it on the MindHacks website that people might interesting; see:
http://mindhacks.com/2015/10/24/jeb-bush-has-misthought/

There are a few interesting things to note about the MindHacks
article:

(a) The author (who may be British) has no idea what Chik-fil-A is
outside of being some kind of fast food chicken place.

(b) The author argues that Jeb! has provided us with an example
of the availability heuristic in action. See the article for details.

(c) The author provides additional information on how likely it
is for a psych major to get a job (turns out it's not so bad) based
on a Georgetown U report on education and the workforce. The
report can be accessed here:
https://cew.georgetown.edu/report/hard-times-2013/

(d) The author also points out that the majority of psych majors
are women and that they earn less on average then men. The
point being that if one is going to talk about psych majors and
their job prospects and earning potnential, one needs to do so
separately for males and females.

(e) The author ends by noting:

|So when Bush says “I just don’t think people are getting jobs
|as psych majors” it seems he misthought.
|
|Specifically, it looks like his thinking was biased by the
|availability heuristic which, if you know about it, can help you
|avoid embarrassing errors when making factual claims.
|
|I’ll leave that irony for Jeb Bush to ponder, along with Allie
|Brandenburger, Kaitlin Zurdowsky and Josh Venable – three
|psychology majors he employed as senior members of his
|campaign team.

Someone should get a statement from Jon Steward on this. ;-)
For more famous people who were psych majors, see:

Just don't mention Ted Bundy and Monica Lewinsky. ;-)
