More about the Competition and Educate Lanka: Educate Lanka was voted to the top 100 charities in the United States in the first round of the Chase Charity Competition. ELF, the only Sri Lankan charity to achieve this esteemed recognition and win a $25,000 donation, competed against over 500,000 other such U.S.A based charities. Starting from January 15th to January 22nd of 2010, ELF will be competing in the second round of the competition to contend for the top prize of $1 million. As was the case in the prior round, the objective of this week is to receive as many votes as possible through Facebook users. Educate Lanka Foundation, Inc. was founded in 2006 with a mission of empowering underprivileged students in Sri Lanka to achieve a quality education. The Foundation is operated on a 100% voluntary basis by a group of young Sri Lankan expatriates residing in the USA. Educate Lanka currently provides its scholarships to about 200 deserving students from all age groups and all ethnicities throughout Sri Lanka. It currently contributes over $25,000 annually for these scholarships.
