DirecTiVo or standalone? DirecTiVos can go for months without a call - programming info comes via sat. Standalone, I'd go at least once a week - more often if possible - as the guide data comes over the phone line and you'll miss any changes between calls. But if you have a standalone, you also have the networking option, including WiFi. And with the phone you could also use a Wireless Modem Jack.
