This is how Tivo! is designed to operate. The continuous buffer is there so
when you get home 15 minutes into a show (assuming Tivo was already tuned to it)
you can hit record and capture what you missed.

Is skipping really that much of an issue? You do know that you can skip to the
little Tic marks
in the progress bar, right? While fast-forwarding or fast-rewinding, just hit
the
skip key and it'll go to the next tic mark.

Your other option is to just change the channel before hitting record. This
will kill
the record buffer and recording will start from the point that you come back to
the channel.
