-----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Pat Tierny I've had Dish Network for years, and never, ever, connected a phone line.
There *is* a need for Series 1 TiVos to use the phone for loading the program guide, and this works with TiVo when a 'slow down' code is used. You, though, dont need it! Hmmmmm, I have removed the pone line from the Dish Network receiver and in the morning I had a message that I will need to have it connected or pay $5 monthly fee for features needed for operation of the receiver. Do you pay a $5 per month for some "connectivity fee?" I had my TiVo attached to the phone line till about 3-4 months ago when I set up a wireless network. I now download everything wirelessly. Actually, even Series 2 TiVo is required to have initial installation through phone line I think - at least this happened to me in August when I got my TiVo box replaced by Humax DVD burner. There was no option for networking at startup - only phone line. If you do not have networking capability of TiVo, you then will not be able to download programming without a phone line - you can use the grid from Dish though and still use manual recording feature of TiVo without the TiVo guide.
