Hi,
I too am using the TiVo wireless adapter with no problems. I had been using
a Netgear WG111NA, with the right serial number, but it was working
intermittently on two different TiVos. I replaced it with a wired adapter.
The other TiVo had to go wireless. Downloading via the web is much faster
that via the phone using either type.
TiVo is now out of stock for both their Linksys USB200M wired and TiVo
wireless adapters. They are saying the version 2 Linksys adapter will work
with their beta 7.2.2 (but you have to sign up for the beta release). Linux
doesn't have the variety of drivers that Windows has so TiVo has to make do
with older adapters or create their own drivers. I did manage to find a
version 1 at Best Buy by accident and that works with 7.2.1 (the latest
release). Other TiVo related web sites carry TiVo compatible adapters but
I'm not sure if you'll know exactly what will be shipped. I don't think
you'll be able to specify version numbers when ordering adapters from
e-tailers. The only sure way is to look at the box in a brick and mortar
store and pay the higher price.
Walt

I just put in my first TiVO system, and had the same question about
the wireless adapter. I saw the TiVO brand adapter for $59.99 on the
TiVO site and figured that it was as good a deal as any other adapter,
plus it ensured compatibility with TiVO. You have to check out the
other adapters to make sure they are compatible with TiVO, and many
are not, plus some that are only work to the 802.11b standard which is
slower than 802.11g. The TiVO adapter works with both b and g.
I have found that the TiVO brand adapter works flawlessly. I have an
old Microsoft 802.11g base station that is no longer made, yet it
still works fine with the TiVO adapter. The TiVO adapter is also
small and fits easily on top of my equipment.
One note- you have to be sure the software version on the TiVO system
is at least version 7.2 (first two numbers - there are several that
follow in the version number) for the TiVO network adapter to work.
The TiVO website gave good information about checking the software
version. My TiVO originally had version 5.x. There was a request form
to fill out on the TiVO website to get the upgrade. The upgrade was
automatically downloaded through the phone line I had connected to the
TiVO. Now that I have the adapter, the phone line is not needed!
