[TiVo Central] TiVo Failures

I have now had three TiVo's fail with the loss of about 240 hours of 
programming - some not replaceable.  Other than regular downloading to 
a VHS tape or to a DVD, which is tedious and should not be necessary, 
are there any other, better options for backup?  For example, can a 
program be transferred to the hard drive of my computer?  Thanks.
