Once upon a time Ron Koms shaped the electrons to say... > I guess what I am asking here, is there any advantage of getting the TiVo > branded adapter, over the D-Link DWL-122, which I already DO have and works > fine. Just thinking about getting another one...
Yes. 1. You have to be lucky to find the specific brand, make, model, and *revision* that works on the TiVo. 2. The TiVo adapter supports WPA security, which is actually secure. All other adapters are limited ot WEP - which is a joke. 3. MRV/TTG transfers are much faster with the TiVo adapter than any other adapter. The TiVo adapter has an on-board processor which handles all of the network security as well as basic network processing, off-loading that from the TiVo's CPU. Since the CPU is the limiting factor, that speeds up transfers. 4. If you have an 802.11g network, then using *any* 802.11b device slows the whole network down. The DWL-122 is 11b. Not only does that mean your TiVo transfers aren't as fast as they could be with 11g (even with a non-TiVo adapter), but that would slow down the network for any other 11g devices using the same base station. Also, the TiVo adapter is the only one that works in the TiVo HD - they removed support for all the older adapters. -MZ -- megazone-at-megazone.org http://www.MegaZone.org/ Gweep, Geek, Human, me. http://www.TiVoLovers.com/ http://www.Eyrie-Productions.com/ -><- Hail Eris "A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men" 508-852-2171
