WinAVI looks like good stuff. It transcoded several files fine, but a DivX widescreen movie had horizontal lines in it. Audio was great as was the picture aside from the lines. The strange thing is that when I pause or fast-forward the picture is shrunk just a tiny bit and the lines disappear. I only tried on one television and will try the other tonight.
