Once upon a time Glen Farney shaped the electrons to say... > The HD box is a S3 box... but not the original S3 box.? Built on the > same platform I'm told, we get the same firmware updates and such.? > But yes, mine is the Tivo HD box, not the original S3 box.
It is confusing. The branding is such that 'Series3' refers to the original model with the OLED front panel, etc. And 'TiVo HD' refers to the current model with the plain front panel with LEDs. That's how they're branded. However, both are part of the 'Series3' family - the TiVo HD is technically another model in the Series3 line, and the packaging says Series3 in smaller type under the big TiVo HD. But no one ever really calls the TiVo HD a Series3, because then it gets confused with the first box which is only just called the 'Series3'. And there are a lot of hardware differences - well, pretty much all the hardware in the TiVo HD is new, nothing carried over from the Series3. And there are differences in the software as well, though those are mainly under the covers and not user visible. For example, the file system is different. -MZ -- megazone-at-megazone.org http://www.MegaZone.org/ Gweep, Geek, Human, me. http://www.GizmoLovers.com/ http://www.Eyrie-Productions.com/ -><- Hail Eris "A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men" 508-852-2171
