Once upon a time Jim Robertson shaped the electrons to say... > TiVo's website doesn't currently list any "lifetime service" purchase > options. Do those come and go periodically? Does the fact that I have a unit
It is there - lifetime is $399 for new subscribers and $299 for existing subscribers adding another box. But note that the DirecTiVo does NOT count as a current subscription, that's a DirecTV product - just how the license deal was setup. Here's the current service plans - if you login to an existing account you'll see the current subscriber prices: https://www3.tivo.com/store/plans.do Lifetime went away for a while, but it has been back full time for quite a while now. > I can't use with Comcast that has lifetime service on it give me any leg up > on getting a new HD unit with lifetime service? Nope. DirecTiVo subscriptions are not TiVo subscriptions - DirecTV licensed the platform, all subscriptions were with *them*, not TiVo. The 'lifetime' on DirecTiVos is NOT on the box, as it is with standalone TiVo units, but on the DirecTV *account*. If you close the DirecTV account, it is gone. > Not strictly a TiVo question, but what do TiVoCentral members think of the > Sony PS3 as a Blu-Ray player for use with the 1080p screen? It is one of the best Blu-ray players on the market. However, unless you're going to use the other features - gaming, downloads, etc - it is pricey. There are some standalone players that are just as good these days and cost less. Check out the hardware reviews on Blu-ray.com - just be sure to pick up a deck with BD-Live support, which is most of the decent decks these days. If you do go with a PS3, be sure to pick up the BD remote accessory. Controlling movies with the SixAxis is just maddening. -MZ -- megazone-at-megazone.org http://www.MegaZone.org/ Gweep, Geek, Human, me. http://www.GizmoLovers.com/ http://www.Eyrie-Productions.com/ -><- Hail Eris "A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men" 508-852-2171
