Hi there - Were you using ActivePython 2.7? It was not clear from your message. ActivePython 2.7 is built against Tcl/Tk 8.5; on Mac 10.6 it therefore uses Apple's Tcl/Tk (8.5) in /System/Library/Frameworks.
