Sounds very nice to me. I chose Perl for my general purpose logger
too, because it seems to be the perfect language for data-processing
as needed for a logbook program. 

Contest rules, even with the most absurd scoring, could quite easily
be implemented in Perl indeed. I actually started working on my own
contest software, completely written in Perl, a while ago, because it
seemed impossible to me to integrate some contests, without enormous
effort, into TLF.

Do you mean TLF will be Perl-only in the future, or just the scoring?
