Leaving alone whether #2 “just began showing up” or somebody “whipped up a crowd", perhaps #3 did not have any reason to argue (or “attack”) until #2 started their (unreasonable, in my view) push? As for #1 — as I’ve nothing nice to comment on this part of the message, I’ll leave that debate to others.
