I’m responding specifically to the request that this person be transparent
about whether or not DJB motivated them to contribute their opinion to this
list.

The truth is, people have been both encouraged to vote *for* and *against* this
draft as part of online communications for months now. Pretending that DJB’s
posting is the first such instance of this is truly intellectually dishonest.

Encouragement to vote *for* this draft has occurred on dedicated Slack and
Discord servers for general cryptography discussions with thousands of members,
and once can reasonably show that that has almost certainly directly led to
certain people voicing their support for the draft.

And yet, there is nothing wrong with that! We're not accosting supporters of
the draft and individually to ask them why they're doing supporting it and to
disclose on which group chat they were encouraged to support the draft’s
publication. We’re also not calling these Slacks/Discords/community chats
“influence campaigns”, even though they have likely been far more influential
than DJB's post.

This is a regrettable outcome of Filippo’s “external influence campaign”
framing and goes to show how damaging his rhetoric has been to fair and
unbiased discourse on this list.
