Everyone who uses my server is too busy to peek at mail sent to root, webmaster, postmaster, etc. (all of which had been piped into a single Maildir). And on the rare occassions I have peeked into that Maildir, it's all been spam and bounce messages for stuff I just don't care about.
Fine. I added TMDA to these accounts. Still no one has time to check the very few mails that end up in the Maildir. Fine. I made TMDA bounce all incoming e-mail and I provided a good bounce message that explained how to get a hold of a mailbox that someone actually watches. I had to add some filtering, however, to check for bounces, otherwise I created bounce-loops. It would be nice to have a from-domains filter source that would check *@=<domain> for every <domain> in a specified file. That way I could do a: from <> drop from-domains /var/qmail/control/rcpthosts drop as my filter and make sure I don't bother bouncing anything that came from me. I was able to create a /var/qmail/alias/.tmda/lists/rcpthosts file with *@=<domain> versions, so I am up and running, but if I add a new domain later on to my /var/qmail/control/rcpthosts, I run the risk of forgetting to add it to my /var/qmail/alias/.tmda/lists/rcpthosts, thereby making a new bounce loop. Such a feature would protect me from such a mistake. Feedback requested. If this is not a feature anyone else wants, I may write it myself.
