FWIW, maildrop does _not_ have this problem as procmail does. If the
message does not contain a From_ line, maildrop will simply create one
(if needed), alleviating the need for the silly `-f' option. procmail
is brain-dead.

As Tim mentioned, Maildir does not need From_. It's also a heckuva lot
more reliable in general than mbox.
