0.51 is 8 months old, contains many bugs, and is not at all
recommended. Use one of the newer Debian packages.

CONFIRM_ADDRESS was introduced in the 0.48 release.

Yup, the dot-qmail interface with the concept of .qmail-default is the
single greatest advantage of qmail over Postfix IMHO. If Postfix had a
"dot-postfix" interface, I'd probably be using it instead of qmail.

How about creating a separate test account to do your testing with? 
That's probably about as good as you can do.
