It's a good start, but I suppose I'll need to dig in to check on, for 
example, what schema attribute names are used to compare 
userid/password against, 
- what happens when the user is not a local user but only gaining pop 
access 
- how is the home directory for the user determined  so as to find a 
custom config file, filters and such,
- and since the user does not own (in the unix file permissions sense) 
the directory structure he is accessing what complications does that 
present. 

Perhaps it'll all fall out simpler than anything but that has not been 
my experience setting up anything to do with ldap authentication.
