When you say "sender's address", do you mean the envelope sender or are you referring to the From header field? The From field can be, and usually is, completely bogus in typical SPAM email. If you are expecting something meaningful in that field, you'll probably want to adjust your expectations! :) > How can I avoid sending emails to an entire mailinglist? TMDA doesn't send its confirm request emails to the address in the >From field. It sends it to the envelope sender address. You can see that address in your incoming log file, if you've enabled LOGFILE_INCOMING in your ~/.tmda/config. The envelope sender is labelled "Sndr:" and the From field is labelled "From:". If they are exactly the same, only "From:" will be shown. Also, if mail originated from a mailing list, TMDA will notice the appropriate list headers and will not send confirmation requests. > I know I could set up my server to disallow emails from someone > who's email address does not match with the IP of the MX sending the > emails. It's not a very good solution. People often send mail from different machines than where they expect replies to go (the MX of their email address). You would reject all legitimate mail that fits that profile. > Is that the only sollution? First, double-check that you really have a problem. Enable LOGFILE_INCOMING (if you haven't already) and check to see if the From header is different from the envelope sender. The envelope sender is the only one that matters.
