Howdy. I'm experiencing some problematic behavior with tmda-sendmail. I'm
using tmda 0.70 on FreeBSD 4.5 with qmail and Pine 4.51.
I have the pine setting
sendmail-path=/usr/local/bin/tmda-sendmail
which means all my outgoing mail is going through tmda-sendmail. When I
compose a message with a To line that looks like this:
To: Contacts: ;
(the ": ;" is the way to tell pine it's not a real address), put a few
addresses in the BCC field, and then send the message, Pine accepts it for
delivery and there's no complaint from tmda-sendmail or any sort of bounce
message. But, the message seems to just disappear. There's no entry for
it in LOGFILE_OUTGOING, and no record of the message being injected for
delivery to qmail.
If I send a message with a "To" line containing a real address, then the
BCC field is handled properly, and the message goes out to all recipients.
I've looked through the mail archives and a few other places, and can't
seem to find an explanation for this. I noticed that the docs on the
PURGED_HEADERS variable might be related to this, but setting it to not
include any BCC headers has no effect.
So, I have the sense that this is either a really easy one ("Chris, you
totally missed this obvious FAQ about that"), or something really obscure
(i.e. unique to Pine + tmda-sendmail + qmail). In any case, the silent
failure is a little disconcerting, and I'd like to track it down.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Chris
