tmda-pending

I've been watching the list for any clues on how to solve this.  I'm using vpopmail.  Login on my box and su to root.  Can't su to any virtual user for obvious reasons.  I can't figure out how to use tmda-pending.  No matter what I try the most common message is:

  File "/home/vpopmail/tmda/bin/tmda-pending", line 271, in ?
    from TMDA import Pending
  File "./TMDA/Pending.py", line 34, in ?
  File "./TMDA/Defaults.py", line 1418, in ?
TMDA.Errors.ConfigError: Can't find key file: /root/.tmda/crypt_key

And help would be greatly appreciated, even if it's just a pointer to the right docs.  Thanks in advance.
