It's pretty obvious why it's rude for someone to receive a confirmation request when they reply to a message you've sent them.
Using 'dated' addresses is arguably the most reliable way to solve this problem. However, many prefer to only use their bare e-mail address. For them, adding the recipient to your whitelist using BARE_APPEND as you send the message is an option, but not a reliable one, as often the recipient replies from a different address. This also tends to clutter your whitelist with unnecessary entries. I've added a third technique to the end of FAQ 5.5 (http://tmda.net/faq.cgi?req=show&file=faq05.005.htp). It involves identifying replies to your messages by looking for your Message-IDs in the 'References and/or 'In-Reply-To' headers of incoming messages. Read the FAQ entry for more details.
