Auto-reply software should respond to the envelope sender, not the
Reply-To: header.  By default, the envelope sender used by TMDA for
confirmation requests is <>.  If the auto-responder isn't sensitive to
an empty envelope sender, it's broken.

No.  This particular scenario seems to be somewhat rare and, in the
past, we haven't gone out of our way to work around broken
auto-responders.  On the other hand, if performing this check appears
to have no undesirable ramifications, it's a simple enough fix, so
Jason might consider it.
