Google tells me that LDA could mean:

lauryl dimethylamine-n-oxide 
Lithium diisopropylamide
local density approximation
launch deployment authority
localizer directional aid
logical device address .....

And that's just the first page!

I wonder if there have been any performance comparisons done.  I assume
that python will tend to lag behind C, but any single implementation can
have some inefficiencies.
