This is a common spammer technique, which is why you'll see people on
the list telling others not to whitelist themselves.

Not that I'm aware of.  The original message and the confirmation
request will both end up in pending/ and, after a while, will be
deleted.  That's the most effort-free way of dealing with it that I'm
aware of.
