Hi Jeff,

Well, since I was the author of the new FAQ entry, I had hoped it would be clearly enough written to solve your problem. ;-)

Thanks for responding. As a matter of fact I did read the new addition to FAQ 4.7. The author writes that things worked well enough until he started adding new users to the system. First he added the BOUNCE_ENV_SENDER to his global config file whereas I added the BOUNCE_ENV_SENDER to ~/.tmda/config. I don't know if that makes any difference.

This is fine. Local configuration overrides global configuration.

Then the author states:

I then modified the script I use to add new TMDA users to my mail server to add this line to each users .tmda/filters/incoming file:

from [EMAIL PROTECTED] drop

This, I admit, through me, because he's doing "from" [EMAIL PROTECTED] drop instead of "to" [EMAIL PROTECTED] drop.

This line used to appear in every TMDA user on my system _except_ for the user bounce. So, any bounce message coming from [EMAIL PROTECTED] was just that--a bounce and so could be dropped.

The user bounce had the "to [EMAIL PROTECTED] drop" line in its .tmda/filters/incoming file..

Skipping down to where Jason Mastaler presents his solution:

echo "#" > /var/qmail/alias/.qmail-bounce

I'm sorry I don't understand the "#" and what that signifies.

less /var/qmail/man/cat5/dot-qmail.0

So all in all, this addition doesn't really help clarify my problem.

Any other suggestion are appreciated.

Okay.

You need to solve the #5.1.1 error in one of three ways (that I can see):

1) by following the first entry in the faq modifying it to fit your real domain name. You might want to read up on qmail extension addresses to understand why it will work. http://www.lifewithqmail.org/lwq.html#extension-addresses

2) add a real user spamtoilet to your system and then put "to [EMAIL PROTECTED] drop" in spamtoilet's .tmda/filters/incoming file. Note that this is what I initially did and that it didn't work as well as I had hoped after I got more TMDA users.

3) follow the last entry in the FAQ. Reading up on qmail's alias mechanism should help you understand why it works. http://www.lifewithqmail.org/lwq.html#aliases

Thanks,

Mark

If this still isn't clear, I'll let someone else take a stab at explaining it better.
