I had the same problem when started using fetchmail. As Stephen
pointed out, it is a usual behavior.
With fetchmail the problem is bigger, because the mails got extra
round to the 'outside' world and thus are delayed.

For normal system you don't need to do anything. If you want, 
see the patch on the fetchmail howto pages.. You know.. ;-)
