I found the problem, don't worry i had 2 extra whitespaces in the .qmail
file, thanks anyway :)

Thanks for your response.  I went with your advise and switched to qmail
for this purpose.  I must admit though I personally think exim is far
superior based on my short duration of installing/configuring qmail but anyhoo
no flame wars :)  I got qmail to accept a local delivery fine.. I then got it
to use a virtual host fine... I then followed the documentation you stated below
and I get a mail loop:

@40000000417acd0a38ce4a2c delivery 26: failure:
This_message_is_looping:_it_already_has_my_Delivered-To_line._(#5.4.6)/

my /var/spool/tmda/.qmail looks like this

  |preline -f /usr/bin/tmda-filter
  |forward "$DEFAULT"@domain.com

Any help appreciated
