I see the same problem with plain tmda-pending. My pending directory typically has between 60 and 100 files and it's quite slow. We read each message from disk, of course, but I thought we did that between the switch to email and the refactoring of Pending. I'm really not sure when the slow-down started. If I get a chance here soon, I'll run the profiler and try to determine what's going on. Jason has the additional problem that large directories can be somewhat slow to read on UFS/FFS. Jason -- have you rebuilt a kernel with DIRHASH and recreated your pending directory from scratch? That might help a little....
