--------------------- I'm submitting (from Italy) this simple change to your challenge/response system: it works faster, with less false positives (0% even with newsletters & C.), less traffic, less human operations, and less problems with different (and often patented) CR systems. The simple change is to turn the system in a challenge-NON-response system: when an unknown sender try to enter an InBox, a test message is immediately sent to the declared sender (and you do it now): - if the sender is inexistent, the test message bounces and the related message (the most of spam) can be deleted. - If the declared sender exists, the test message is received by the declared sender: in the test message there is the simple explanation of the system: --- if you have really sent the message, you can safely delete the test message: in this manner the original message will be kept in the InBox of the protected user; this is the opposite behavior of yours, but it allows legitimate users to not reply if they have really sent a message. --- if you have NOT sent the message (then the declared sender was spoofed by a spammer) please simply reply to the test message: in this manner both inexistent and spoofed messages bounce, and the illegitimate messages can be automatically deleted! - If a spammer decides to use a real address (something like @hotmail.com) it will be soon overwhelmed by test messages, and they will bounce like his free account is inexistent! The only way to access an InBox will be to declare a real identity, and the real identity must have a large space to receive tons of test messages (if you are a spammer). And if a professional spammer uses this expensive system, he will send only one spam, because for the next spam he can be successfully blocked by standard filters based on its professional domain! To be a spammer will be much more expensive than now! Because to cross this system the spammer must use a domain owned by him, and he has to change it for every message! In adds, he will declare his identity, and now he will have to think twice before infringing some Laws... Legitimate senders, like newsletters masters, will receive only one test message (the test message is sent only for unknown senders), so they will not have major expenses than now to send thousands of legitimate messages and they have not to reply to thousands of challenge-response systems! And the user is not requested to pre-authorize email from automated services to which he subscribe! I've patented this system (only in Italy) and I've developed a client that do this job (it really works!) with Microsoft email clients only.
