I wouldn't be surprised if it was an OpenBSD issue relating to memory
management or similar.  I've seen similar quirkiness with OpenBSD in
the past.  I've also found some obscure bugs in OBSD that should have
been caught but weren't because so few people use OBSD.  I don't have
much confidence in it at this point.

No, it isn't normal unless the size of the e-mail message is 11 to 13
MB in size in which case it is normal.
