I have similar problems with my hands. I have weakness and
pain in my hands. I use something called "trekking poles". They are sold in
pairs in outdoor stores and catalogs.
They have straps at the top and look much like ski
poles. They have padded grips and the straps can be tightened.
Its the straps that keep the stick in my hand and I actually use my wrist
more than my hand to control the pole. I have tried using them as a pair
like my doctor suggested but I have such a problem with left/right that I wind
up tripping over the right hand one and giving myself dandy shin bruises. So I
just use one on the left and that seems to work
(left-handed).
I dont need it most of the time but if I am walking
any distance or walking on uneven ground I use it for balance. You
might want to try a backpacking store and try one out. I bought mine
online from Sierra Trading Post and got them for half price. They
are adjustable for length and have shock absorbers in them.
Of course we all know that people love to stare but I swear
when I use my stick in public I could be stark naked and no one would
notice. They are all looking at the pole!
Take care,

Subject: Re: [TMIC] Cane
Hello all,
Maybe someone can help me. My balance is pretty bad
and my legs are weak, but I can't hold a walker or cane because my hands are
paralyzed, and I have no grip. Has anyone seen a cane with a type of
velcro holder on it? I always have to hold someone's arm when walking
outdoors. Also, does anyone have a car equipped for someone with
limited strength in their arms? I could drive if I could steer.
Take care,
