Take it - or an alternative. And fish oil. And eat smart.
Two weeks before my transverse mylopathy incident my total cholesterol was
270, my LDL 266, my HDL, the good stuff, was nil. I believe my mylopathy was
the result of a blocked tiny branch artery at T9-10. A few months after the
TM I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure with an ejection ratio of
35%, thought to have been the result of several silent heart attacks.
I have since been on several heart-related medications. I have been on
Lipitor for years, and earlier this week, because of muscle pain, I went on
a four week trial of Vytorin (ezetimibe/simvastatin) as a replacement for
Lipitor.
I just started the fish oil capsules a few weeks ago, so I don't yet know
the impact.
At the end of last March my blood tests were good:
Triglyceride 49
Cholesterol 125
HDL 42
Direct LDL 65.2
CHDL 3.0
But my doctor wants to see the total cholesterol much lower.
