Krissy, The Flu is a virus that, unlike chicken pox, is always slowly mutating. So, you get the flu one year, get over it, and will not get that flu again, BUT, the flu virus mutates so next winter you get the new flu. That's why they have problems having enough flu shots. Every year they have to figure out what is the most likely mutation of the flu to spread across the world, then they have to make the vaccine which can take more than six months. Some years they guess wrong, so the vaccine doesn't protect anyone. The Avian Flu that the birds are getting is a different sort of virus- very scary- that untill it mutates to be able to spead between humans no vaccine can be made to protect us. Hope that helps F
