It just is really really easier to read when it's in larger, bold font.  It makes no difference to the difficulty in typing if it's all in lower case. 
 
We have the most wonderful "family" in the world here and I'm sure we are all concerned in looking out for each other's interests.

I think for some people who have trouble with dexterity in their hands it is easier to type in all caps -- they don't mean it as "shouting."
