33 years ago, when I was 16, I developed TM. It 1st affected
my bladder. I went 3 days without urinating but I didn't realize there was
something seriously wrong with me [ I know that sounds stupid but I was 16 and
at 16 you think you're invincible]. I woke up Sun. morning and could barely
move my legs. My mother had to help me get up and get dressed and she took me to
the hospital. I collapsed going into the hospital and that was the last time I
ever walked. During the next week the paralysis moved up and down my body until
I was completely paralized. For the next 4 months I ran a fever that was
sometimes out of control. Most of that time I was out of it and don't really
remember what was going on. After 4 months I had a pulmonary embolism and a
heart attack. 2 weeks later my arms started tingling and burning and my feeling
came back in my upper body[T3]. I somewhat think that the eletrocution from
being resusitated is what brought back the feeling but that is just speculation.
I spent 7 months in the hospital and another 9 months at the rehabilitation
center. I have a suprapubic catheter and have had numerous surgeries for bed
sores. If I can give anyone tips with cath care, bed sores or bowel issues I
will share what works for me. Something might be useful. I do not or have not
ever had any pain since the 1st 4 months so I consider myself very fortunate in
that concern.
