Actually it was my understanding that talk about God in a natural sense as in relying on God's help to make it through the day was all right, because we all talk about what helps us, but general religious e-mails weren't welcome.

I agree with this, Barbara. 
 
There is probably nothing that we all agree on, but that shouldn't mean that people aren't allowed to talk about it. 
 
I would think the line should be drawn where one tries to 'sell' or impose, his beliefs to/on others - i.e.: as in preaching, whether about God, or Atheism.
