I can relate. Luckily my Dr. was pretty sharp and spared me alot of
tests, but EVERY time they go to do a lumbar puncture I get the chills.
HATE those things. I had 3 while in the hospital.....

Hello everybody -- "House" is the name of the
best medical drama ever. It is amazing. Every week this crack team
of superspecialists gets one patient who nobody else can figure of what's
wrong with. They write his symptoms on a whiteboard, and strategize and
throw ideas around. It is truly fascinating to watch the *process* that
their genius medical minds go through as they try one diagnosis, reject it,
and then try another and another. (Your doctors probably went through
some of the same things too when you first went in with symptoms!)
Sometimes it turns out to be something very simple, and sometimes very
complex. (The first episode turned out to be african sleeping sickness.
The patient herself had never been to africa, so they doubted the diagnosis,
until they learned that she had an affair with someone who went to
africa, and got it that way.) Only that one black kid with the TM has
died -- but he died of radiation poisoning, not TM -- they saved all the other
ones. Watching their genius minds work is what is so fascinating.
They are now rerunning the whole season throughout the summer, Tuesday nights
from 8-10 EST on FOX. This is the second season, the first
season is on DVD already. My friend with TM finds this the most
fascinating show ever, because now that she's been through seeing multiple
doctors and had an unbelievable number of tests, she understands the show
perfectly. I have sarcoidosis, and they have not done a show on that
yet. However, when someone comes in, they usually mention sarcoidosis as
a possibility, but then quickly dismiss it. Darn.
That disease can also be fascinating....maybe
next season!

exposure to radiation; consequently, the patient died. Dr. House has
mentioned TM several times.
