Great hint - thanks! Also, it will not scratch your counters if you
have that type of countertop. Thanks so much for sharing this. My husband use
to do half the cooking before I was paralyzed & now he does it all. I tell him
let me do it & he says it doesn't take me no time. And 2 in the kitchen is too
tight. It has always as we have a galley kitchen.
I have had TM since December 09, once leg became paralyzed from a fall going
back to bed from the potty. But strange I didn't even fall on that leg. By
Dec. 13th, I told my husband we couldn't wait for an appt. we have to go to the
hospital now cuz my leg would not move at all. I had a walking stick from
having had Cauda Equina Syndrome & p.t. told me to get one because I was left
w/ a lymp from muscles and nerves being moved around. So, we got to the
outside steps and & told my husband you are going to have to pretty much hold
me all the way down if we get taggled up. We got taggled and down I went. I
scooted all my way to the car & he said can you get yourself up there. My
answer "no way - I'm not a magician." Go next do, forget about your manly
pride and get that cop over here. He would know how to get me in. I went to 2
different rehabs and they were not what I wanted. One place dropped me saying
I didn't know you were paralyzed. And by the time I left the
other one he said the dr. "you are not trying enough". I wanted to slap him
in the face. I left there w/ both legs paralyzed. They left me on a hard bed
pain, not one for paralyzed folks for 4 hours. I went off to sleep on it, they
had changed shifts and all and no one told the nurses or techs about it. I was
furious and this was the same place the dr. said I wasn't trying enough. And
ended up w/ 2 legs paralyzed when I left there. My dr. was on a 2 week
vacation. I had a spinal cord stimulator ( or dorsal column stim) in me and I
couldn't have an MRI till it was taken out. I got it out (it was 14 yrs. old)
right under my brain stem for neck pain and all went well. My surgeon was new
to LIttle Rock, but he was great. Now, Medicare don't want to pay him. I
wrote a not so nice letter to them and told them, this surgery was necessary in
order for my reason for paralyzation to be determined. Dumb Medicare. I've
never had much trouble w/ them til them), So, I
had documentation my husband had asked for my records when I left and we
xeroxed them and sent that to where my spinal surgeon said this was necessary
to determine what was going on w/ me. Sorry for the long novel I've written.
It just took a while to explain. I ended up at Baylor Rehab. for 6 weeks. I
was gone from my home for 3 months since I left to the emergency at L.R. to 2
small rehabs, a surgery and recovery and then my decision to go there. I wish
I would have gone there right away. I think I would be walking today. I'm
paralyzed from T12 down. Take care, Natalie M.

in the (empty) sink. This lowers the pan about six inches and gave me the
leverage I needed. This tip has also helped my Mom who is too short for her
kitchen counter.
