Patti, I was told standing helps but you really need the weights. I have
osteoporosis and my bones or much stronger. The weights or really tough on me.
So
I use the water therapy that helps a lot and its good for your balance., My
endocronologist does a bone density test on me once a year and the blood
work twice a year.
I take boniva once a month a vitamin d pill 50,000 units a month and a
calcium pill 600 mgs a day with vitamin d.That is why its important to keep up
with your labs and see your Endocronologist when you or told. You do not want to
much calcium that can create a problem also.
I also do range of motion exercises laying down on the tables they use in
pt. my husband built me one. I have a small gym in my home .I do not like to
exercise at the country club because i cannot do all of them and i look spastic
at times.
Sally, I was a dancer all kinds and a gymnest. my mom had dance studios. I
loved to dance, tumble play tennis and i loved all water sports. Needless to
say its hard enough walking without stumbling, my balance i am working on and
building my core which is strong abs. I do that in the pool and i also use the
big blue ball. I love to be stretched it feels so good. i watch programs on
exercising on tv that i can do.
In my opinion if you have access to a pool that is the best for blance and
using light weights in the water. It puts no pressure on your spine. The pool
also is good for just walking. it helps me alot, its not a cure but it will
help.
