Hi Todd,
I watched the show too.I had never heard of this before, but what surprised
me was the other surfers in the area had never heard of it.Weird.
I have heard people on this list talk about a "spinal stroke",which this
compression of blood vessels was also called on the show.Blood flow is cut
off,the area swells and damage occurs.I wonder if they try prednisone for the
swelling?This wasn't mentioned.

Did anyone happen to watch Primetime: Medical Mysteries last night.
They talked about surfer's neuropathy.  When surfing in Hawaii.  Where the
person on the surf board would bend their back upward and pinch the nerve in
the spinal cord.  They wouldn't be able to walk once they got back to the beach.
The summer before I was hit with  a lesion/TM @ T-4 to T-8.  I have always said
that it started the end of the summer of 2001 after boogie boarding at the
beach in Corpus Christi, TX.  I wanted to go back out, because it would be the
last chance I would have for the summer, but my back hurt, my legs where
wobble, and I was very tried, and we where going back home to Austin, TX.
I was 38 years old and didn't think I was getting too OLD.
At age 5, I fail off a slide head first and broke the right arm and pulled
muscles in the ofter arm.  Getting HIV+ in Sept. 7, 1989.  Then the boogie
board in the late summer of 2001.  Then TM in April 1, 2002.
Has anyone else heard about this and/or was surfing before TM?
