Subj: Re: [TMIC] Jims surgery today at Port Huron General

Hi Carol,

When I had my gall bladder out last year Dave and I were really worried
beforehand. Fortunately, our worries were unfounded and the surgery a breeze.

I don't know about Jim and his activity level, but being paralyzed with
little sensation was actually a blessing because the pain was dulled a little
bit. I still needed the pain meds though as surgery is surgery and invasive
as
 heck.

Umm...what did bother me was recovery at the nursing home and what the lack
of care did to me. It has been a long and difficult recovery. I can't tell
you what the surgery did to my body. It's hard to keep from getting
infections when the biggest side effect of gall bladder surgery is diarrhea,
and
keeping it from entering other orifices is nearly impossible. This may apply
more to women than to men, so maybe Jim will not have as much trouble.

The "home" is where I first got MRSA and those places are known for the
spreading of disease, even though I had a private room and did not spend a lot
of time with others. It has plagued me ever since.

All I am saying is, as good as the care looks and thank God I had somewhere
to go to recover, it is simply a fact that diseases like MRSA cannot be
contained in a large society where many of the same people have the same
illnesses. So, Carol, be watchful when it comes to Jim's care and even though
you
are worried and tired and have many other hats to wear in your life, stay on
top of things and get him out of there a.s.a.p.

Maybe Jim isn't even going to need to go for rehab after his surgery. I
hope and Pray that that is the case and home nursing will work for him. I
love
you both.

You have my utmost respect, Carol. Believe me, Jim appreciates all that
you do. I can tell by the tone of your emails that the two of you are close.
Prayer is the best tool to help keep both of you humble and thankful always
for one another.

Just my 2 cents,
Love,
Jude

Jim had his gall bladder surgery today. All is well so far. Having TM really
makes a simple Laproscopic surgery a bit more of a challenge, just as having
had a radical prostatectomy makes TM more of a challenge. Jim has had an
artificial sphincter since 1992 as a result of the surgery. His nurses had no
idea what that was and that they would have to see, that he could void, so he
wouldn't explode .Anyway it was a real revelation for them. I am sure that
as soon as they let him have some solid food he will be ready to come home and
get back to his routine of riding the bike at the gym etc. Happy
Thanksgiving to all of you ,carol and jim
