If you look at the charts, you receive more money at disability. This doesn't
ever get dialed backwards, so if you are close to retirement age and are
disabled, it's much better to go out on disability. Then, if you get denied,
you really haven't lost anything, but should you get an approval, you'll have a
higher monthly payment. Definitely worth considering. Many have trouble
getting approved, and others just sail through the process! You will revert to
Social Security at age 65, but at the same dollar amount that you've been
receiving all along.

I believe this is why there are so many fraudulent claims. People start
collecting well before retirement, and for those who can persuade a doctor they
are disabled and just not caring to work, it's a good source of income. I have
met quite a few people that have worked many years and felt that they didn't
want to work any longer so they got a doctor to make their conditions a lot
worse than they were so they could collect SSDI. It makes me sick.

Subject: [TMIC] OT - Question SSD to retirement payments

Question for anyone who collected SS Disability payments and then reached
retirement age; did you payments change and how much? Also was the retirement
age 62 or full retirement age?
