*Like most of us we suffer PAIN most of the day and nights. I am fed up with it. My neuro prescribed hyromorhine. my family dr. says the this drug is highly addictive. it helps a lot. now Dr. Frank suggested Dextromethorphan as a substitute. Does anyone take this. ?what are tour side effects? what dosage do you take? please advise as my prebscription for hydromorhine must be renewed.

The only place or thing I know that has Dextromethorphan in it is some cough syrups. Best ask Frank if it can be bought here in the U.S. just as a prescription by itself. Now, as far as "addiction" goes towards pain medications, I don't use that word as it is a necessary part of treating TM. I've been on Morphine, Dilaudid, Fentanyl, Percocet, Vicodin, just to name a few of the opiates I have had to try to find relief. Now if one stops taking their pain meds all at once, they would go into withdrawals. But taken as pescribed, one would suffer none of those symptoms. If your neurologist wants you to take them for pain control, I would do as he says. I'm sure your family doctor has your best interest at heart, but your neurologist is the one in charge of your pain management. //If there comes a time you feel you no longer need them, then your doctor would taper you off of them slowly so you won't have the withdrawal symptoms. Just my 2 cents worth of 20 years of TM and taking many different types of opiates over these years. Hope this helps some.
