Gilly, Geez, I'm sorry to hear about the nasty fall and problem with your leg. I can imagine how mad you must have been about spending the night in the hospital. I hate hospitals more than ever now! And I know how hard it is for you to take care of yourself, you are not one to sit and take it easy when you can go and enjoy your property and be outside enjoying the view of your land and your animals.
I have never personally heard of antibiotics having anything to do with having TM or any spinal cord injury. I have personally had many doses of antibiotics due to pneumonia over the years. I never had pneumonia before TM. The first time I got it was when my husband was moving old dusty boxes out of the closet when we were preparing to move. I have asthma and had a pretty bad reaction to all the dust, which ended up in a bad case of pneumonia. Since then, I have had it many times and antibiotics as well, so I speak from my experience. The antibiotics do kill the good and bad bacteria in your gut and that is why it is important to take some probiotics with them. I found out the hard way, and ended up with Clostridium difficile. It can be very dangerous, so by all means, protect yourself from getting it. There are no magic cures for it. It's like TM in a way, you may be cured, it may not cause too many problems, or may never go away. Mine is in the middle, sometimes a big problem, sometimes no problem. This doesn't generally happen to anyone from one course of antibiotics, but after several, it can happen rather easily. And, since you are having them run continuously, you have a much higher chance of having problems. Eating yogurt is good, but a lot of the probiotic in it isn't active. I now take a probiotic in pill or capsule form along with the antibiotic whenever I need them and for a week or so afterwards. I know that you know this stuff, but I'm just going to remind you anyway. You need to make sure that you keep yourself well hydrated. Dehydration occurs easily and can cause serious problems, so please drink at least twice or more as much as normal, and at least 3 times if running a temp. Pay attention to how much and how often you are urinating, and if it's not often or much, you need more fluid. Also, the color is an indicator. Keep in touch and let all of us know how you are doing and how the leg is healing. Almost 8 weeks ago, I had a nasty fall, gashed my leg and spent a night in hospital getting almost every test known to man or beast. The gash has still not healed, getting there, and I'm about to be put on yet another course of antibiotics. It has not taken me long has it for this to suddenly spark a little something in my poor old brain. I'm thinking that being on continuous antibiotics for 8 weeks is not what a tm patient should be doing. I look forward to any and all suggestions. Many thanks in advance Hugs Gilly.
