Sorry to piggyback on your reply, Janice– I accidentally deleted the
original message. There are four different types of pain receptors.
Hot/cold, pressure, vibration and pain. It's possible for some to feel
certain sensations while not being able to feel the others.

For example, I can't feel pain on certain parts of my feet yet can't feel
his feather touch them. As for why you don't feel pain on the skin and deep
down below; probably because you have no feeling on your skin, but have
sensation in your muscles or other tissues deeper down. Unless I have an
infection, I cannot feel my urethra or vaginal area– but I can feel my
bladder and the painful spasms I used to have before getting my suprapubic
catheter.
