I have not had the achilles tendon procedure; however, I have had a few other surgical procedures on my foot because of the residuals of TM.  The first one was to have all my toes (bones) fused to prevent them from curling from atrophy.  One day in the surgical center and then a few weeks' recovery time, but I was back at work one week after the procedure walking on a "boot".  Actually, the boot works better than my orthotic, and I still use it from time to time when I had a lot of walking to do.

The other procedure was to have my tendons lengthened on top of the foot, because instead of curling under, my toes were starting to "stick up" after the surgery because the tendons were shrinking, so that procedure is similar to the one you will be having.  That was actually an "in office" procedure where they numbed my foot and did the "snipping" within a few minutes.

That was very simple.

I have talked to several people (actually, parents whose children) who had the procedure and I have not heard of any complications from this, and the benefits far outweigh any side effects.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Take care,

Debbie

No . . .

But I solved all such problems by simply wearing a good pair of cowboy boots with a "riding" heel.  That is a taller heel that is underslung to make walking with a tall heel no problem.  I have drop-foot and now do not braces or anything.

My foot doctor has recommended that I have surgery to lengthen my Achilles tendon by cutting a few strands of the tendon. Simple same day surgical procedure. My feet tend to point downward (Peter Pan feet) which puts pressure on the balls of my feet resulting in pressure sores. Has anyone else had this procedure (Percutaneous tendo-Achilles lengthening)? I am interested in hearing your thoughts pros or cons........Cody in Austin
