When I started to add events beforehand, I started pushing the first scenes further ahead into higher numbers of chapters, somehow doubling my text during the move. I did copy/paste, not cut/paste. Big oops. Thinking I was deleting text I already saved into another file, I removed a very large chunk of the story.>>
Aww man... That's something that's never really happened to me.. yet. (I tend to write each chapter in seperate files, from little notes I had outlined on real physical paper) But here's one silly little thing I had done a few years ago... I confused the Save As command with the Open command. Instead of opening up the chapter that I had nearly finished, I ended up saving the blank new page over it! >.< This was also before I had started the practice of making backup files too... (and why I decided to not write late at night anymore!) But yeah, I now what you mean about making up an 'Outakes page' or a seperete file with cool little scenarios that one wants to use later in the story. I started doing that too.. and then you can make a humorous funny excerpt out of them after the fic is finished. <<I was talking to Lisardo at the time and was moaning over the phone that it was all gone. *sob* I can't remember all that I wrote but I do know for a fact that's it's been erased and I'll have to re-write it the best to my knowledge. Who knows.>> *sai* I hate that too! And it usually happens to something I hadn't rehearsed in my head a thousand times before hand. The last time I unjustly lost something was in 2001, for the FanFic Challenge Dawn first held. Stinky little 3 1/2" floppy virus corrupted that story and another short I was writing for Andrew Modeen. Grr... made me mad that I didn't have time to rewrite the fic back to it's full glory and so it fell flat on it's face. BTW... going off topic, that 2001 fanfic challenger file I had is lost again. I emailed Dawn if she still had it, but she hadn't replied yet. Would anyone one else just soooo happen to have that fic on file? It's a really creepy/gross one about the Last Supper and Tatsu. A part of me wants to justify the graphic grossness of that still...
