Wow, I almost had to my uncle some time this week, too, because one night, our keyboard stopped working, then the mouse froze, and when I hit the big red switch, Windows wouldn't start! It was a blank black screen! The cables were fine, monitor was in tight but we got nothing! I couldn't hear any clicking sounds coming from the machine, either. You know when you reboot and you hear bunches of clicking inside? It'd go clickclick......silence. I freaked out immensely and got on the phone with IBM tech support right away! The guy was very cool and said the best thing to do is to leave it all shut down during the night plus leave out the mouse and keyboard cables so that if Windows comes back, it can sense the error of those two things missing. I left the big switch on and turned it off from the drive, something you can't normally do with the button! The switch is usually not supposed to shut off by pressing it! Anyway, I shut off everything and the next morning, Christine said Windows was back! Except it found some errors because the mouse and keyboard cables were still unplugged. I couldn't shut down with the button to the drive (since it was back to normal) so I threw the red switch to off, replaced the cables, and then restarted. Windows and everything came up just fine! Except NOW, the monitor screen color was going haywire. We went from blue, to green, to yellow, to normal, to blue again, to green for awhile, to multi-colored! I was driving Christine nuts as she was checking her email and apologizing to her friend for disappearing from AIM the other night! When she left to go shower, I started to respond to my emails with no trouble and then something happened when I was responding to Joanna Capello's Renaissance picture dilemma. I was looking through a Renaissance book to find her picture of two nude women, a tree, and a river. Oh, then this all happened July 22! Okay, so as I'm looking, the power goes out! Christine is still showering but now is in the dark! It doesn't last long but once again Windows comes back on as if nothing happened! So, I guess it just needed a REALLY good night's sleep!
The moral of this? It fixed itself! I never had to call my uncle! So, who can I hug? lol! Now, I'll shut up.
